Situated in the south-west of Uganda, Bwindi is the place to go for gorilla trekking in the country. This memorable experience will bring you to see these gentle giants in their natural habitat. Other activities available in the area include scenic nature walks to admire the volcanoes, jagged valleys, waterfalls, lakes and dramatic mountain ranges, as well as cultural visits to the local Batwa communities in the area.

Bwindi Forest National Park

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located in the southwestern part of Uganda on the rim of the Rift Valley. The hillsides which are mist-covered are sheltered by one of the ancient and very biologically varied rainforests in Uganda that dates back to more than 25,000 years, comprising of about 400 varied plant species. More notably, this “impenetrable forest” in addition protects an predictable 320 population of mountain gorillas – approximately half of the population in the world, among which are a number of habituated groups, that can be tracked by visitors. Bwindi is habitat to more than half the world’s population of Mountain Gorillas.

With only eight tents situated under the forest canopy, you will enjoy a peaceful stay with maximum privacy and intimacy. Tents are sturdy, with wooden floors and offer a spacious, comfortable base from which to enjoy the forest. Each tent looks straight out into the jungle’s canopy and features two queen-sized beds with headboards carved by Ugandan artisans. The en suite bathroom features a shower and a deep bathtub from which you can also enjoy incredible forest views.

I loved my evening out on the lawn, fire on the go, overlooking the forested mountains, enjoying snacks and listening to songs performed by one of the village’s local musicians.
