In Harmony With Nature

Perched high on Nteko Ridge, the charming Nkuringo Lodge has spectacular views over Bwindi Impenetrable National Park where half the world’s rare mountain gorillas roam. It’s an excellent base for gorilla tracking, and also offers fabulous hiking, birding and canoeing with a relaxing, unpretentious vibe.

OVERLOOKING BWINDI’S DENSE RAINFOREST

Nkuringo’s 12 chalet-style rooms are dotted around its pretty gardens. The Virunga Terrace rooms are the smaller, lower budget option, unfussy but entirely comfortable. The Cottages have private verandas, dark-wood flooring, raffia ceilings, cane furniture and stone fireplaces for cold nights. The elegant Villa is similarly designed with two bright and spacious bedrooms (they can be booked separately or interconnected) and private terraces overlooking Bwindi’s dense rainforest. All rooms are en-suite and individually decorated with splashes of colour in fabrics and local artwork.

ACTIVITIES CRAFTED TO SUIT YOUR STYLE

Service is friendly and gently enthusiastic – many of the staff have worked here for years and genuinely want guests to enjoy themselves. Come here for Bwindi’s famous gorilla tracking but, with the lodge affiliated to Nkuringo Walking Safaris, don’t miss activities such as community walks, hiking or bird-spotting through the fairy-tale forest and canoeing on Lake Mutanda with knowledgeable, helpful guides. Working closely with local people, the lodge sells crafts made by the Nkuringo Youth Initiative Foundation in its gift shop, where a coffee lounge and terrace make the most of the mountain vistas. Rather erratic Wi-Fi is available in the main building: when it fails, simply sit back and enjoy the view.
