Experienced guides will take you on open air game drives or on guided bush walks and introduce you to a whole new world of bush lore and animal habits.

THE PLACE OF REST

Makalali, which means place of rest, was an old cattle farm when bought in the early nineties. Restocking and regeneration of the veldt were top priorities, but so was creating a lodge with a difference. The innovative design was conceived by Sylvio Rech who envisaged a lodge built under the giant trees that guard the river. Local craftsman where employed to bring Sylvio’s design to life, and create the vibrant, and unique lodge.

MARVELLOUS WILDLIFE

You could encounter the “Big Five” and an abundance of wildlife and birdlife on your game drive. Game drives are in open landrover’s and are conducted twice daily. An experienced tracker will impart his knowledge of the bush, game and birdlife to enhance your game drive. Coffee and rusks are provided on the morning game drives and guest can enjoy sundowners on the evening game drives.
