The nearest town is Kibuye, which has a touching memorial to those lost in the infamous genocide.

Lake Kivu

Lake Kivu is one of the two smallest African Great Lakes, but is the third deepest and sits at the highest altitude. From Lake Kivu it is easy to explore the Nyungwe Forest, Kigali and the Volcanoes National Park. Lake Kivu is a mecca for water-sport enthusiasts and sun-worshippers and despite Rwanda’s landlocked reputation, the lake offers a superb beachside holiday.
